  Holy moly 3 weeks since my last post??? The dog days of summer have really flown by. Let's see, what's new.....classes are back in session on campus. It's nice to see students all over and feel back in the college campus environment. Today is the 2nd day of classes so there's still some uncertainty in the new students. With the students back on campus our security alerts are starting to increase in number. The newer students are still learning our processes so there's a lot of false positive alerts. Golf season is almost done. I'm thinking the weather will be good until 1 Oct. After that it's hit or miss. We play one more big event at our home course and it's a good one. It's the annual Oktoberfest event and that is always packed out. I'm starting to feel really good about my swing just in time to stop playing for 6 months. Of course.   Where has the summer gone? I only have 2 more free Fridays before we resume regular work week hours for the start of the new academic year. Thankfully we work from home on Fridays anywhere so it won't be too hard to get re-used to. CISSP studying continues. I think I have finally gotten flashcards done for every chapter/area. I hope so. My hand hurts. I think I ended up with about 800 cards, give or take a few. I stopped counting after 350 or so. Might go golfing after work today. I haven't been in 4 weeks. I am not looking forward to seeing how my swing is. Will probably golf all weekend so hopefully the rust comes off quick. Rapidly approaching the day my dad died in 2016. Really not looking forward to that. Hoping the weather is nice so I can golf. It has sort of become my annual memorial tradition to him.   How does time keep flying by so fast? I didn't realize it has been almost 10 days since my last posting. Time flies when having fun I guess. Or when you are extremely busy. Studying for CISSP exam continues. I've gotten about 100 more flashcards done covering 2 more domains. Only 2 domains left and then I need to go back and make sure I have cards for everything. This time of year is always a little downer for me. My dad died from cancer in Aug 2016. I was stationed in Poland still at that time but was able to get a month of emergency leave to go home and spend his last few weeks with him. I always try and remember him as he used to be but sometimes I can't help but think how he was during those last days. Cancer sucks! Every year during this time leading up to the day he died I think about him constantly. Ever since we moved back to the states when I retired I've tried to golf on that day in honor of him.   This time I know it's been more than a week. I attended a CISSP certification bootcamp class last week. LOTS of information overload but a lot of good security information. I've scheduled my certification exam for 17 Sept so hopefully that's enough study time. I am making flashcards which is helping. I've also got a practice question app and website I will use to take practice questions when I have free time. It was nice to get away from work for the week. Class days were long, about 10 hours each, but it was fun to be back in a learning environment. AND work paid for it so that is a double win! Can't believe most of the others in class with me had to pay for their trips by themselves. I only had to pay for lodging and food. Travel was easy since the class was only about 75 miles from home.
