Happy 2023!

 It's already 2023?!?!?!? Where did the last month go???

Today is my first day back from winter break. It was so nice and relaxing. I didn't do a thing except a few quick errands when we needed food. I stayed in my PJ's most of the time! 

I was able to read 3-4 Star Wars books, plus a business true crime type of book. I binge watched a lot of tv and just enjoyed being away from the office.

So what am I going to do in 2023? I have no idea. In March I have to make a presentation at a higher education conference. Should be interesting. I will get continuing education credits to use towards my CISSP cert so that's good. I actually need to start putting my part of the slides together.

I found out over the break I have to have another root canal done. Ugh! I go in for the first appt in a few weeks. Yay me.

The office is quiet since my boss is working from home today. I like being able to slowly ease back into work tasks after time away from the office.

My kids are coming to visit next week. Daughter and her BF will be here for about 5 days and my son is staying for a few weeks. His spring term doesn't start until Feb so he has more time. Daughter and BF have to go back to work/school. I am excited to see them. This will be the first trip they've made to see us here since we moved here in 2019. We are planning a day trip to NYC (if things look calm enough with COVID and the pandemic). 

My son was supposed to fly to SC today but we had to change his flight due to blizzard weather he is having in MN. I got the flight changed in about 30 mins. It was so much easier than I thought it would be.

This year we are not planning on taking any major trips. Instead, we are focusing on knocking out a few credit cards and getting our budget reigned in a bit. My goal is to have 2 cards, maybe 3, paid off by the end of the year. We have no problem tightening our belts and reducing our spending so we should be good to go.

Lots going on this year. It will be an interesting ride.

It's almost Friday!

Technically today IS my Friday since we don't have work on Fridays during our summer schedule. And it has been very nice and quiet at work today. A few quick alerts to investigate but that is it. I've got 1 quick call coming up that I don't have to do anything in but listen. I've taken advantage of the quiet and gotten a lot of HTML learning done. On my work in the office days I am teaching myself HTML and CSS. I'm hoping to get proficient enough to build some real web pages we can use as our phishing exercise emails. I'm building a small practice page as I go through the book to get the hands on feeling of it.  The only problem is I am the complete opposite of an artistic person. I have absolutely no artistic ability whatsoever. I can see something in my mind but have less than 0 skills to bring that image to life. If someone told me what to do I could do it very easily. I'm baaaaaack....

  This time I know it's been more than a week. I attended a CISSP certification bootcamp class last week. LOTS of information overload but a lot of good security information. I've scheduled my certification exam for 17 Sept so hopefully that's enough study time. I am making flashcards which is helping. I've also got a practice question app and website I will use to take practice questions when I have free time. It was nice to get away from work for the week. Class days were long, about 10 hours each, but it was fun to be back in a learning environment. AND work paid for it so that is a double win! Can't believe most of the others in class with me had to pay for their trips by themselves. I only had to pay for lodging and food. Travel was easy since the class was only about 75 miles from home. Fall is here!

Fall is officially upon us. I just went for a walk around campus and it was nice and cool. And quiet too since students are off today for their fall break. Classes resume tomorrow so the lively atmosphere will be back shortly. I am thoroughly enjoying the cooling weather. Jeans/Sweatshirt weather is my absolute favorite. Unfortunately it never stays for too long as it always seems to get winter cold much faster every year. Everything is about the same. Work is work. Golf season is over. My wife's niece that has been staying with us for a while is moving out tomorrow morning. She is  heading back to FL to live with an ex boyfriend and 2 other friends. She is leaving first thing in the morning and should get to FL sometime Thurs afternoon. This means we get our basement area back and with it our 2nd bathroom!!! I had no problems with her staying with us and she knows she could stay for as long as she wants but it will be nice to get our entire house back. I plan on moving...
